Allied Health Assistant

What is an Allied Health Assistance (AHA)?

An Allied Health Assistant is a healthcare worker who has demonstrated competencies to provide person-centered, evidence-informed therapy and support to individuals and groups, to help protect, restore and maintain optimal function, and promote independence and well-being.

 

An Allied Health Assistant works under the delegation and supervision of an Allied Health Professionals (example: physiotherapy or exercise physiologist).

  • Continue to receive input from your physiotherapist or exercise physiologist throughout.

  • Be confident in completing your rehabilitation exercises.

  • Assist in motivation to complete your exercises.

Process

1.

Undergo a comprehensive assesSment with our Exercise Physiologists (EP) or Physiotherapists to develop an individualised treatment plan and exercise program working towards your goal(s).

2.

Handover given to Allied Health Assistant (AHA) with all relevant details.

3.

You complete your exercise program under supervision and guidance from your allied health assistant for whatever period you have agreed on. All relevant information will be relayed to the EP/physio who will regularly check your progress.

4.

Follow up with EP/physio for reassessment, develop a treatment plan which may include further input from the AHA.

  • 60 minute session:  $80

It is important to note that you will need to consult with an allied health professional first prior to seeing an allied health assistant.

Can I claim it through my Private Health Care Fund? At this point in time AHA are not able to receive a rebate through private healthcare funds. This may change in the future with the advocacy of the allied health assistant national association, more can be found here: https://www.ahana.com.au/

Can I use DVA to cover for AHA? At this point in time AHA are not able to receive a rebate through DVA. This may change in the future with the advocacy of the allied health assistant national association, more can be found here: https://www.ahana.com.au/

Is an AHA qualified to take care of my rehab/recovery? Yes, you will need to undergo an initial assessment with a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist, who will determine if it would be safe and appropriate to work with our allied health assistant. The Allied Health Assistant will then receive a thorough handover and be given any relevant information. The Allied Health Assistant will then go through the exercise program prescribed by the physiotherapist or exercise physiologist. Any details about the session will be relayed back to the allied health professional and the program will be adjusted if needed.

How do I know my AHA is competent to guide my rehabilitation? Our Allied Health Assistant has received training and is fully qualified. Training ensures that the allied health assistant is competent and capable of assisting people in their rehabilitation and recovery under the guidance/supervision of the allied health professional. At Adapt Movement we value evidence-based practice and professional development. Our Allied Health Assistant (and the rest of our team) have regular meetings, undergo PD training and share research to maintain the high quality care we strive to provide.
