Hydrotherapy

What is it?

Hydrotherapy is a good option for people that have had recent injuries/surgeries, struggle with exercise/movement due to pain, and have difficulty completing exercises outside of the water. It involves completing specific exercises in a heated pool.

Hydrotherapy benefits:

  • It is often a more tolerated way to get moving immediately following injury, when in severe pain and/or chronic pain

  • It is inexpensive and you can do it yourself!

  • It can provide pain relief without the need to take medication or see a healthcare provider with minimal to no side effects.

  • It has a lower impact on the joints when they are more sensitive while still building strength.

  • It requires less energy and effort than ‘usual’ exercise and can even be relaxing.

  • A great first step in the rehabilitation/recovery if you have not been very active for a long period of time.

What to expect

Hydrotherapy is usually completed for a reason, and with a specific goal. It ideally is also part of a wider treatment plan. Therefore, initially we will take you through a comprehensive assessment where we will discuss your goals, symptoms, health and other relevant factors in the clinic. An assessment often does include a physical component. At the end of the assessment we will discuss a treatment plan going forward to reach your goals that’s tailored to your circumstances. If hydrotherapy is deemed appropriate as part of your plan, we can set-up an exercise program for you and go through the exercises with you. This is done in the hydrotherapy space within the Geraldton Aquarena.
